O Pirata Bar
In 1986, Júlio and Rodolphe founded the Pirata bar & restrô in Fortaleza, a cultural and tourist enterprise that incorporated, with eclecticism, the local traditions and the cultural identity of Ceará.
In a short amount of time, the originality of the house caught the public's attention, and the Pirata Bar became their favorite place in the bohemian quarter of the city, Praia de Iracema. On stage, famous names like Leila Pinheiro, Belchior, Oswaldo Montenegro, Edson Cordeiro, Adriana Calcanhoto, Gonzaginha and more than 50 other personalities of importance in the Brazilian Music came to Pirata. As well as plays, expositions, fashion shows, the first festival of Brega Music, first world competition of soccerbar (soccer game played in bars) and thousands of other games played at the Pirata Bar.
The fame of the "Craziest monday in the world " started with a common event at the Pirata Bar: pleasing its customers. On Monday, January 5th of 1987, a lady from the local society wanted to celebrate her birthday with some friends at the Pirata Bar. It was a monday night, but Júlio Trindade opened the house with all his staff and cheerfulness of the normal days at the Pirata.
To the sound of an old time radio's forró, the anniversary turned into a nice party, with the

presence of a couple of clowns from the Netherlands and little party hats that were generously distributed to the guests
However there were very few men between the guests, so there was no one to dance with! Júlio Trindade didn't think twice: called all his staff, waiters, security and even the cook, they all came and became dancing partners.
The result ? An amazing night, so much so that the guests wanted to repeat the anniversary the following week, and it became the the "tea-dance of monday nights". In february of the same year the Sanfoneiro Azeitona with his forró pé-de-serra music started playing every monday night, and on june 12 to add even more to the party, a band called (Alta Tensão) with the leading vocalist Armando Telles (leading vocalist of the Banda do Pirata today) started playing there also. This way, little by little, mouth to mouth, the tradition to go to the Pirata Bar on mondays was built, the place were the nights are magical, and only ends when the last survivor leaves the room.
The fame spread out all over Brazil and the world, making the news on the New York Times. The Pirata Bar is, in essence, a bold and democratic space, where the only law is to be happy. That's why everyone says: "Coming to Ceará and not going to Pirata, is like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope. ! |
